buddhi

(‘that by which [an object] is known’, the intellect)

The word ‘buddhi,’ indicating the intellect, is sometimes used as a general term for the mind. At other times it is applied to the discriminative faculty of the mind. According to the Advaita Vedānta, the jīva (individual soul) is the reflection of the ātman in this buddhi.
