antarikṣa

(‘that which contains stars,’ the sky)

The region pervading the space in between the earth (bhūloka) and the heavens, (dyuloka or svarga), is called antarikṣa. It is also known as bhuvarloka. According to the Ṛgveda, Indra or Vāyu is the presiding deity of this region. Sometimes a few more deities are assigned to this region: Apām Napāt, Aja-ekapāt, Rudra, Maruts, Parjanya and Āpaḥ (waters).
