anna-homa

(‘oblation of food’)

Among the several Vedic sacrifices Aśvamedha and Vājapeya are among the better known ones. Anna-homa is a subsi-diary rite of these sacrifices. It consists mainly of an oblation of ghee, grains and powder of barley and grains of pounded rice, offered into the sacrificial fire just before sunrise. The oblatory materials however, may sometimes differ.
